Allergen Pictograms

Allergy or allergic reaction is a hypersensitivity of the body's immune system caused by contact with the stimulus. Different compounds harmless for most can become harmful for a given body. In response to stimulus, histamines are released and cause allergic symptoms. According to statistics, allergic reactions occur in about 20% of the population in the world and this number increases each year. It is related to the deterioration of the ecological situation, pollution environment, extensive application of chemicals, stress, unhealthy nutrition. Hereditary predisposition, digestive disorders, inflammatory processes, worms, pathology of organs, frequent acute respiratory viral infections, nasal polyps are also among the allergy causes.

Allergies occur with direct contact of allergen with the skin, with allergen swallowing, inhalation, etc. The most common triggers for allergic reactions are:

  • foods
  • dust
  • pollen
  • animal hair and fur
  • fluff
  • nicotine smoke
  • cosmetics
  • plants
  • medicines
  • household chemicals
  • fungus spores
  • insect bites, and some others.

To detect the allergen skin and blood tests are performed. A small amount of suspected allergen is introduced intradermally or a number of allergen-specific IgE antibodies is measured in a blood sample. Clinical manifestations of allergies are localized in some area of the body like face, back, arms, or affect the whole body. Among the main allergy symptoms are:

  • hives
  • sneezing
  • nasal blockage
  • runny nose
  • red eyes
  • watery eyes
  • itchy rash
  • shortness of breath
  • cough
  • wheezing
  • dizziness
  • swelling of the nose, face, or eyes
  • anxiety
  • nausea
  • vomiting.

In order to avoid the appearance of unpleasant symptoms of an allergic reaction, it is recommended to detect the allergen and further avoid contact with it. A lot of special medications with or without a doctor’s prescription blocking the histamine receptors are applied, the medical treatment is also conducted.

The allergology area is rich in special symbols, pictograms, icons, signs, clipart. They are used to illustrate allergology schematics, diagrams, infographics, documents, and other materials, mark products, medications, medical equipment, etc. ConceptDraw DIAGRAM software supplied with the powerful Allergology solution is a modern diagramming software with a wide collection of allergen pictograms.
