Extreme sports or adventure sports are sports activities related to a high degree of risk. Typically, they are conjugated with height, speed, depth, specific gear, high level of physical exertion, adrenaline. Extreme sports gained their popularity in the 1990s and stay really popular nowadays. Every year more and more people are interested and take an active part in extreme sports. Due to their popularity, the new extreme sports regularly appear.
Extreme sports are a way of thrill-seeking and adrenaline rush. But special attention and strong execution of the activity are required, because otherwise is a high risk of serious physical harm. Extreme sports are not the exclusive domain of youth, but people from youth to middle age predominate. There are many drivers, rock stars, active and impulse people among extreme sports participants. Some extreme sports are single like skateboarding, parkour, other ones like rafting, paintballing are team sports.
Extreme sports require from participants the combination of good physical training, athletic skills and are accompanied with pronounced risk. They are rarely sanctioned by schools and typically participants don't have a coach. Most extreme sports require having special equipment like glasses, helmets, etc. For surfing, for example, surfboard and swimming kits are needed, a special not high bike with small wheels is required for BMX sport, etc.
Typically training in extreme sports is closely related to terrain like mountains, rocks, and natural weather phenomena like wind, waves, snow. Because these phenomena are not controlled, the result is unpredictable. Sometimes severe weather events cause strong danger for extreme sports activity. Primarily people compete against weather and difficulties connected with terrain and weather phenomena, and only then to other participants.
There is an enormous quantity of extreme sports. Commonly they are subdivided into extreme vehicle sports (motorized and non-motorized) and non-vehicle sports. Extreme sports include sports activities on the earth, in water, air, snow, ice.
