How to Diagram the Architecture of the Internet of Things?

The network diagram of an IoT architecture is used to visualize communication and connectivity between devices in the IoT system. Usually, it displays protocols and technologies that enable devices to connect and communicate with each other and with the wider Internet.

The sample diagram, we used in this lesson, shows the layered architecture of the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT). It includes industrial equipment, devices, and instruments with built-in sensors and special industrial apps. Being connected to a network, they collect, analyze, and exchange data, realize remote monitoring, and control in automated mode.

There are many different ways to create an IoT architecture diagram. You can create it manually, but the more efficient way is to use technical drawing software such as ConceptDraw DIAGRAM enhanced with the Internet of Things solution. The solution contains 10 libraries including 273 vector images of industry-standard symbols and 15 examples intended to make short work of building diagrams, used to illustrate the architecture and communication flow of IoT systems.

1. Run ConceptDraw DIAGRAM.
2. Reveal the "Internet of Things" item in the Solutions panel.

3. Click the library preview to activate it in the Library panel.

4. Add elements to the diagram by dragging them from the proper library to the document page.

5. Use the connector to show the connections of the scheme details. Select the Smart Connector tool. . To connect elements using this tool, drag the connector from one connect dot to another.

6. Use the alignment and placement options provided in the Arrange&Size panel to quickly customize your diagram appiarence.
