Project Management Wisdom from Max Wideman
In the 1980s, the Project Management Institute was still in its early development, when R. Max Wideman assembled a group of experienced project managers to map out the extent of this modern management discipline. The result was named The Project Management Body of Knowledge or PMBOK for short. The next step was to try to model the arrangement of the parts graphically. He spent a decade creating, choosing and discussing different models with his colleagues. However, his favorite is Figure 3 created with ConceptDraw shown in the following article on First Principles of Project Management.

R. Max Wideman is a Civil engineer, project management consultant, author, professional speaker. President of PMI in 1987 and Chair in 1988, Mr. Wideman has diverse experience in systems, software, social and environmental projects, as well as design and engineering projects from hydroelectric, river and marine to commercial and residential construction. He developed the 1987 version of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) and wrote two supporting books. He has presented papers and seminars in many countries.
Max Wideman has been made a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), UK. CMI is the only chartered professional body in the UK dedicated to promoting the highest standards in management and leadership excellence. This senior member role represents a commitment to these highest standards.
